James Toller, the so-called Eynesbury Giant, was buri= ed beneath the font of St Mary’s Church, Eynesbury <= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> in 1818. This young man, who= died at the age of 21, some 8 feet and 11.5 inches was said to have been buried = here to avoid the attentions of body snatchers, whose activities were then very widespread. A memorial to him is in the nave.

 

The Eynesbury Giant strides in to = make history once again.

The Eynesbury Giant has hit the headlines once again - the b= ig man has been voted as St Neots' most famous character from history.

This hugely popular debate was organised by local historians= and certainly caught the imagination of residents.

In the voting, a St Neots assassin had come within a whisker= to being voted first following a debate held in the town's library in the sear= ch for this interesting figure from the past.

The 8ft-plus figure of James Toller, 1798 - 1818, the so-cal= led Eynesbury Giant, received the most votes.
